The Michigan Merit Award was established by the Michigan legislature in 1999 (Public Act 94) for the high school graduating Class of 2000 and after. The award provides $2,500 to high school graduates for outstanding performance on their Michigan Educational Assessment Program (MEAP) tests, or the Michigan Merit Exam (Class of 2007 and after). About 49,000 high school graduates earn the award each year. For an overview of the program, including information about how to qualify, click here.
Also, the Michigan Promise Scholarship provides up to $4,000 to high school graduates for successfully completing two years of postsecondary education.
